Media Recomendations!

This is a list of all the various forms of media I have or would like to consume. There are webcomic, book, TV show, anime, movie, and music lists with links to places where you can find them. These only include things that I enjoyed at least a little so most of them have 4 or 5 stars (and even if they don't I think they're worth watching).

Webcomics

Following:

  • Aurora :
A fantasy webcomic with colorful characters and intriguing mysteries. It’s a little slow to start, but very good once you get into it. (i'm in love with it)
  • Anacrine Complex :
A wonderful webcomic about a nerd who gets superpowers from mysterious sludge, and their quest to find out why this happened along with several other people with superpowers who may or may not want them there. (Hasn't updated in forever)
  • The Glass Scientists :
A webcomic about mad scientists and self acceptance starring Dr.Jekyll (and Hyde) as her tries to help other people (and himself) gain acceptance from wider society for their mad science.
  • Earth, 2068 :
A fun webcomic about a dystopian future where whats left of the ruled by a tech ceo.
  • Novae :
A really pretty webcomic that starts of strong. Recently the plots kind of lost my interest, but it's a decent medival fantasy story.
  • Sleepless Domain :
A really great magical girl story that I don't want to spoil. Go read it!

Complete:

  • Always Raining Here :
Sweet romcom vibes with lots of twists and turns in their relationship, but none of their problems seem silly or contrived.
  • Kochab :
The pretties webcomic I have ever seen with a heart warming (hehe) plot and great charchters.
  • Tripping Over You :
    Pretty classic and cute romance.
  • Cans of Beans :
A very strange and lovable story.

Books

Have Read:

  • Percy Jackson and the Olympians by Rick Riordan :
A story about a very sarcastic teen with ADHD and dyslexia, who learns that he is a demigod and is saddled with a great prophecy and some good friends.
  • The Heroes of Olympus by Rick Riordan :
The sequel to Percy Jackson with an amnesiac protagonist who is the center of the gods plans to fight another great threat. It's really good, just trust me. (If you like Nico, this is your series.)
  • The Trials of Apollo by Rick Riordan :
Another Percy Jackson sequel about the god Apollo turned mortal. The writing is hilarious and showcases Apollo's (many) flaws and how he grows beyond them. If you didn't like Heroes of Olympus, please give this one a chance.
  • The Kane Chronicles by Rick Riordan :
Another Rick Riordan series, this time about the egyptian gods. It has some iffy romantic pairings and borderline racist or just ignorant lines, but it also has a lot of charming characters and fun relationships.
  • Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard by Rick Riordan :
An amazing (pan) protagonist who as usual, gets thrust into his demigod heritage after... dying, in the first chapter. It's great, and at least stick around for book two because Alex Fierro's (a child of Loki ;) introduction is the best part of the series.
  • The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer :
A creative and fun take on the original fairy tales that manages to put in some clever references while still telling its own clever overarching plot about a futuristic world filled with oppressed cyborgs and robots, a queen of the moon with illusion powers, and several wolfmen.
  • The Murderbot Diaries by Martha Wells :
A humorous and clever take on a mostly robotic protagonist. The stories are fun mysteries that find a way to explore the oppression and capitalism of this futuristic space opera while still keeping it funny and compelling..
  • The Zodiac Legacy by Stan Lee and Stuart Moore :
I read this in middle school with my friends (we loved it), and I don't remember much except the cool powers and kind of adult Percy Jackson vibes I got from this book.
  • Cramm This Book by Olivia Seltzer :
An interesting book about whats going on in the world in this decade and some brief history. It's not very long, but I still learned a lot.
  • Ink by Alice Broadway :
Despite my general wariness of dystopian books this one was very interesting despite a subpar ending. It features a world where your whole life is tattooed on your skin and the very memory of your existence is in jeopardy if you step too far out of line. It also has some surprising notes of cancel culture in it despite being out years before it became a concept.

TV Shows

Have Watched:

  • The Nanny :
An old sitcom about a jewish fashionista from queens who comes to work for an actor as a nanny. It's very funny, and from what I've heard, a good representation of some jewish experiences, but it does have some very prevalent transphobia, fatphobia, and racism.
  • Carmen Sandiego :
A fun remake of the old Carmen Sandiego cartoon this time with Carmen as the hero of the story. Carmen travels around the world with her band of protagonists as she tries to steal art before the VILE gets to them (they're the bad guys if you can believe it).
  • Young Justice :
The first season of young justice is amazing and fun with colorful characters and fun slice of life episodes. Even with a couple main characters you really feel like you get to know everyone. But, the later seasons get a little bloated, so I would stop there.
  • Teen Titans :
Not to be confused with it's reboot, Teen Titans Go!, the original Teen Titans has a wonderful balance of comedy, action, and drama. All of the colorful characters feel like a family in the sense that they both love and hate each other, and you can't help rooting for all of them.
  • Steven Universe :
The show has kind of a slow start, but by the end of season 1 it starts getting really good. I love all of the complex (and queer) characters this show had to offer.
  • The Umbrella Academy :
Someone took all the bright colors out of super heroes, and decided to add an apocalypse and family trauma instead. I thought it was fun, but my dad didn't really like any of the characters which is fair.
  • H2O: Just Add Water :
H2O is a story about three not-quite friends that stumble into a magical moon pool that makes them turn into mermaids when they touch water. Despite the premise I though it was a very fun and surprisingly grounded show. I've also heard good things about a similar show Mako Mermaids.
  • She-Ra and the Princesses of Power :
An amazing remake of the original, this time with more compelling characters. Everyone feels like a fleshed out character (eventually), and this is the best enemies to lovers I have seen outside of fanfiction.
  • Good Omens :
A funny take on the bible where an angel and a demon both realize that maybe the end of the world isn't as fun as it sounds and team up to stop it. Very fun references if you've read the bible, but even without that I still enjoyed it.
  • Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug and Cat Noir :
Look, I love this show, but it is the worst. It has a wonderful premise, two superhero teen who are each in love with each other's alter egos, but it fails to deliver every time. It's repetitive for the first few seasons, and although the later seasons do get interesting, they also throw the characters in a dumpster and set them on fire. Anyways, here's my shrine for it.
  • Odd Squad :
Odd Squad was me and my friend's favorite show growing up because of it's stellar comedy and fun world. It stars Olive and Otto, two Odd Squad agents whose job it is to solve odd problems like pie-nados and baby laser chickens. Later in the show they're replaced by Olympia and Ottis who are just as amazing and sometimes even more hilarious, but after they switch to a flying van things start to go downhill in my opinion.
  • Voltron: Legendary Defender :
Look, I know the series has a (deservedly) bad reputation, but the first couple seasons are really good, and the character dynamics are so fun. (Pidge is the best character, you need to see them)

Anime

Have Watched:

  • Fruits Basket :
An amazing romance anime about a family curse and all the trauma that comes with it. It has a diverse cast of characters and an amazing plot that picks up more in the later seasons.
  • InuYasha :
A shonen anime about a time traveling magical girl, her half a dog demon romantic interest, and all the trouble they get into after she breaks the magical mcguffin every demon is looking for.
  • Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon :
InuYasha’s second generation spinoff series that has akward exposition and bad fight sequences, but I still watch it and enjoy it anyways. The main characters are Sesshomaru's twin daughter's, and they're probably the best part of the show.
  • Cardcaptor Sakura :
A whimsical anime series about a young magical girl who has to recapture magical cards she set free. Cute friendships, gay subplots, and cute outfits.
  • The Disastrous Life of Saiki K. :
Hilarious anime about an introverted, all but cannon aroace psychic, and the wacky things his friends get him into as he tries to hide his powers and live an ordinary life. It's pure comedy and very meta at times.
  • Kaguya-sama: Love Is War :
Amazing enemies to lovers anime with hilarious jokes. I left it waiting for season 2, but I'm pretty sure it's out now.
  • DokiDoki! PreCure :
Me and my friends watching this show as Glitter Force Doki Doki to make fun of it, but I thought it was pretty good. It's fun and simple, but it's got some really good antagonists and is really cute.

Movies

Have Watched:

  • Everything Everywhere All at Once :
This movie was hilarious, hopeful, and sad. I don't want to spoil it, but you NEED to watch it. (R)
  • Now You See Me :
A fun cat and mouse story where magicians decide to become thieves and mess with interpol in their grand finale tour.
  • Mamma Mia! :
A fun and a little wacky musical based on the songs of ABBA.
  • Mixtape :
A fun, quirky coming of age music about rock music and making friends. It might have been a little cheesy, but that's what I loved about it.
  • Knives Out :
The best murder mystery I have seen. Ever. Family drama and rich assholes are there too. WATCH IT!
  • Clue :
A murder mystery that leaves the ending so vauge that it gives you multiple plausible endings before it presents you with the "true" ending as it pats it self on the back for being so clever. The play version my school did was so much better, I wish you could see that instead.
  • Good Will Hunting :
A heart warming story of a genius working through his trauma and finally embracing his talents. This doesn't sound that great, but trust me, it's good.
  • Mr. & Mrs. Smith :
A married couple finds out they're both spies, and they've been given orders to kill each other.
